The barbell lateral lunge is a compound exercise targeting the lower body, focusing on strengthening the quadriceps, glutes, and inner thighs. It improves balance, coordination, and lateral movement strength, often used to enhance athletic performance.

How to do it

  1. Start standing with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell across your upper back.
  2. Step out to the side with your right foot, lowering your hips by bending your right knee.
  3. Keep your left leg straight and foot flat while maintaining an upright torso.
  4. Push off from your right foot to return to the starting position.
  5. Repeat the movement on the other side.
