The barbell lunge is a strength training exercise that targets the lower body. It primarily works the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings, improving leg strength, balance, and core stability. It is commonly used to enhance muscle hypertrophy and endurance.
How to do it
- Start by standing with feet hip-width apart and the barbell resting on your upper back.
- Take a step forward with one leg, lowering your hips until both knees are bent at about 90 degrees.
- Ensure your front knee is directly above your ankle and your back knee is hovering off the ground.
- Push back to the starting position using the heel of your front foot.
- Repeat with the other leg, alternating for the desired number of reps.
