The step-up is a functional exercise targeting the lower body, particularly the quadriceps and gluteus maximus. It improves strength, balance, and coordination while simulating a natural movement. This exercise is commonly used in strength training and rehabilitation programs.
How to do it
- Stand facing a bench with feet hip-width apart.
- Place one foot on the bench, ensuring full contact with the surface.
- Push through the heel of the elevated foot to lift your body onto the bench.
- Briefly stand on the bench with both feet before stepping back down.
- Repeat for desired reps and switch legs.
