The step-up is a functional exercise targeting the lower body, particularly the quadriceps and gluteus maximus. It improves strength, balance, and coordination while simulating a natural movement. This exercise is commonly used in strength training and rehabilitation programs.

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a bench with feet hip-width apart.
  2. Place one foot on the bench, ensuring full contact with the surface.
  3. Push through the heel of the elevated foot to lift your body onto the bench.
  4. Briefly stand on the bench with both feet before stepping back down.
  5. Repeat for desired reps and switch legs.
