The dumbbell calf raise is an effective exercise that targets the calf muscles, specifically helping to build and define the lower leg. It involves standing on the edge of a step or platform and raising the heels, emphasizing the calf muscles for strength and endurance.

How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand with arms at your sides.
  2. Stand on the balls of your feet on an elevated step, letting your heels hang off.
  3. Lift your heels as high as possible by extending your ankles.
  4. Pause at the top of the movement, then slowly lower your heels back down.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
