The barbell seated calf raise is an effective exercise to target the calf muscles, specifically the gastrocnemius. It improves calf strength and endurance by isolating the lower leg muscles while maintaining stability on a seated bench.

How to do it

  1. Sit on a bench with feet flat and knees bent.
  2. Place a barbell across the thighs, near the knees.
  3. Lift your heels by pushing through the balls of your feet.
  4. Hold the top position briefly for a strong contraction.
  5. Slowly lower heels back to the starting position.
