The reverse grip bench press is a chest exercise targeting the upper chest muscles with a reverse grip on the barbell. This variation can reduce shoulder strain and engage the triceps and forearms more effectively. It is performed lying on a bench with a barbell held with palms facing the face.

How to do it

  1. Lie on a bench with feet flat on the ground.
  2. Grasp a barbell with a reverse grip, palms facing your face, shoulder-width apart.
  3. Lower the barbell to your chest, keeping elbows close to your sides.
  4. Press the barbell back up to the starting position, fully extending elbows.
