The barbell overhead squat is a compound exercise that targets strength, stability, and mobility. It involves squatting with a barbell held overhead, engaging the shoulders and core for balance and strength while working the lower body through a full range of motion.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell overhead with a wide grip.
  2. Engage the core and ensure the bar is directly over the midline of the body.
  3. Descend into a squat by bending the knees and hips, keeping the chest upright.
  4. Lower until thighs are parallel to the ground or deeper, maintaining the bar position.
