The exercise is a barbell deadlift, focusing on lifting a weighted barbell from the ground to a standing position. It primarily targets strength development in the lower body and back.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, the barbell over the mid-foot.
  2. Bend at the hips and knees to grip the barbell with both hands.
  3. Lift the chest, straighten the back, and engage your core.
  4. Push through the heels, extend the knees and hips to lift the bar.
  5. Lower the bar back to the ground in a controlled motion.
