The barbell lying close-grip press is an upper body strength exercise targeting the triceps. It is performed on a bench, utilizing a narrower grip to emphasize and isolate the triceps while also engaging the chest.

How to do it

  1. Lie on a bench with feet flat on the floor and grasp the barbell with a close grip.
  2. Lift the barbell off the rack and hold it above the chest with arms fully extended.
  3. Lower the barbell slowly towards the lower chest, keeping elbows close to the body.
  4. Press the barbell back up to the starting position by extending the elbows.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of reps, then carefully rack the barbell.
