The Smith shrug focuses on strengthening the upper trapezius muscles by elevating the shoulders with controlled motion. This exercise helps in increasing shoulder stability and improving posture by engaging the neck and upper back muscles.
How to do it
- Stand inside a Smith Machine with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Grip the barbell with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder width.
- Maintain a straight back and slightly bend your knees.
- Shrug your shoulders upward, squeezing at the top.
- Lower back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
