The Smith Lateral Step-Up is an exercise focusing on leg strength and stability by performing lateral step-ups on a bench with a barbell across the shoulders. It primarily targets the quads while also engaging the glutes and adductors for balance and stabilization.
How to do it
- Position a bench under the Smith Machine and set the bar at shoulder height.
- Stand sideways with one foot on the bench and the barbell on your shoulders.
- Engage your core, step up laterally onto the bench, driving through the heel.
- Extend your leg fully at the top, keeping your balance.
- Lower yourself back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
