The deadlift is a foundational strength training exercise that targets the lower body and core, promoting overall strength and stability. It involves lifting a loaded barbell from the ground using a hip hinge motion, engaging multiple muscle groups.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart, barbell over mid-foot.
  2. Bend at hips and knees, gripping the bar with hands shoulder-width apart.
  3. Lift the chest, engage the core, and straighten the back.
  4. Push through heels to lift the bar, extending hips and knees fully.
  5. Lower the bar with control, keeping the back straight.
