A close-grip pull-up is a bodyweight exercise that emphasizes the latissimus dorsi and biceps by using a narrow grip. This variation increases the demand on the upper back and arm muscles, providing a unique challenge compared to standard pull-ups.

How to do it

  1. Grasp the pull up bar with a narrow overhand grip.
  2. Hang with arms fully extended and feet off the ground.
  3. Pull your chest towards the bar by engaging your back and arm muscles.
  4. Briefly hold when your chin reaches bar level.
  5. Lower yourself back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
