Clap push-ups are an advanced plyometric variation of the classic push-up. They primarily increase explosive upper body strength and power, enhancing athletic performance. During the exercise, the push-off from the ground is forceful enough to allow a clap before landing back in a push-up position.

How to do it

  1. Start in a plank position with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  2. Lower your chest toward the floor by bending elbows.
  3. Explosively push up and off the ground, clapping hands together quickly.
  4. Land softly on your hands, absorbing the impact by bending elbows.
  5. Reset and repeat the movement for several repetitions.
