The barbell squat is a compound lower-body exercise that strengthens the legs and core while enhancing overall stability and balance. It primarily targets the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings, making it effective for building muscle and improving endurance.

How to do it

  1. Position the barbell across your upper back and grip it with both hands.
  2. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly pointed out.
  3. Engage your core and keep your back straight as you bend your knees.
  4. Lower your hips back and down until your thighs are parallel to the ground.
  5. Drive through your heels to return to the starting position.
