The barbell overhead shrug is an exercise that targets the upper trapezius muscles, enhancing shoulder stability and strength. This movement involves lifting the shoulders toward the ears while holding a barbell overhead, emphasizing scapular elevation.

How to do it

  1. Grip the barbell with hands shoulder-width apart and lift it overhead.
  2. Stand with feet hip-width apart, maintaining a stable core.
  3. Elevate your shoulders towards your ears in a controlled manner.
  4. Hold the top position briefly, then lower your shoulders.
  5. Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.
