The barbell Olympic squat is a compound movement that primarily targets the lower body. This exercise improves strength in the quadriceps and glutes while enhancing core stability. Performing squats can also aid in developing overall athleticism and functional strength.

How to do it

  1. Position a barbell across your upper back, gripping it with your hands wider than shoulder-width.
  2. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly pointed out.
  3. Engage your core and lower into a squat by bending your knees and hips, keeping your chest up.
  4. Descend until your thighs are parallel to the ground, then push through your heels to return to standing.
