The barbell floor press is a chest exercise that targets the pectoral muscles while limiting shoulder strain. Lying on the floor, you press the barbell upward, which increases triceps activation and strengthens the chest.

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with a barbell above your chest, elbows bent.
  2. Grip the barbell with hands shoulder-width apart.
  3. Press the barbell upward by extending your arms fully.
  4. Pause briefly at the top, then lower the barbell slowly until your upper arms touch the floor.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, maintaining control throughout the movement.
