The barbell bench squat is a variation of the squat exercise where the lifter uses a bench as a reference point. This exercise primarily targets the lower body muscles and aids in building strength, stability, and power.

How to do it

  1. Stand in front of a bench with a barbell resting on your upper back.
  2. Position feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly outward.
  3. Lower your body by bending your knees and hips, aiming to lightly touch the bench with your glutes.
  4. Push through the heels to return to the starting position.
  5. Keep your chest up and core engaged throughout the movement.
