The lateral step-up is an exercise that focuses on improving leg strength, particularly targeting the quadriceps and glutes. It also enhances balance and coordination by requiring stability as you step up and down sideways onto a platform.

How to do it

  1. Stand beside a step with feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Step sideways onto the step with one foot, keeping your torso upright.
  3. Push through the heel of the stepping foot to lift your body up.
  4. Bring the other foot up to meet the stepping foot.
  5. Step back down with the non-stepping foot, returning to the start position.
