The barbell shrug is an effective exercise targeting the upper trapezius muscles. It helps build strength and stability in the shoulders and upper back, assisting with posture and lending broader shoulders.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell with an overhand grip.
  2. Keep arms straight and lift shoulders towards ears as high as possible.
  3. Hold the contraction briefly, then lower the shoulders back to the starting position.
