How to do it

  1. Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell behind your thighs with an overhand grip.
  2. Engage your core and keep your back straight.
  3. Lift the barbell by raising your arms to the side and slightly backward, squeezing your shoulder blades together.
  4. Pause briefly at the top of the movement.
  5. Lower the barbell back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
