The Barbell Clean Deadlift is a compound exercise that develops strength and power in the lower body and back. It is a foundational movement for Olympic lifts, focusing on the initial pull phase to train the muscles for explosive lifting.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart, barbell over mid-foot.
  2. Bend at the hips and knees to grasp the barbell with an overhand grip.
  3. Keep chest lifted and back straight as you lift the barbell by extending hips and knees.
  4. Pull the bar close to the body, keeping core tight.
  5. Return the barbell to the floor in a controlled manner.
