The Barbell Clean Deadlift is a compound exercise that develops strength and power in the lower body and back. It is a foundational movement for Olympic lifts, focusing on the initial pull phase to train the muscles for explosive lifting.
How to do it
- Stand with feet hip-width apart, barbell over mid-foot.
- Bend at the hips and knees to grasp the barbell with an overhand grip.
- Keep chest lifted and back straight as you lift the barbell by extending hips and knees.
- Pull the bar close to the body, keeping core tight.
- Return the barbell to the floor in a controlled manner.
